Chalkboard Evolution

 

 

Having chalkboards in my home brings with it the ability to change things up without buying new decor.  Of course, the actual chalkboard design evolves a bit over time.

 

When I first hung the old screen door, with a freshly painted chalboard panel, I stood back with chalk in hand....and....nuthin.  I had no idea what to write or what to draw.

 

 

The first few attempts were a bit sketchy. (except for the addition from my budding artist niece)

 

 

 

 

My boys drew "the big buck" at deer season, so I decided to have some fun with him for Christmas.

 

 

Then there was also the time I decided to share...

 

 

...the best chocolate cake recipe, EVER.

 

Go ahead and give it a try!

 

 

Then over time, the chalkboard design evolved a bit more with web inspiration.

 

 

And here my chalkboard is right now.  I wonder what will be the next design.

 

Any suggestions?

 

 

Here are a few other chalkboards in my home.

 

 

This is paint mixed with unsanded grout. Pick a color, any color, and you can make some too!

 

1 cup paint to 2 tablespoons white unsanded grout

 

 

Chalkboard paint can be used on a multitude of surfaces.  Now go chalkboard something!

Just playing...

 

 

We got a new camera for Christmas this year....so I'm just playing.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


I took some of these pictures, and my 13 year old took some.  She has a great eye for angles.  And textures.

The resident junk yard dog is the subject of many of our shoots. Mostly, she is oblivious to us.

 

 

 

 

While others are suspicious...

 

 

 

 

 

There will be a huge learning curve with this camera for me.

 

 

 

 

 

But I will be patient...as long as my subjects are!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I hope to be playing much more in the coming year. And I may just share with you.

Did you enjoy some holiday overload?

 

 

 

Feeling like you're on a "holiday hangover"?

 

I personally have a hard time letting go of the holiday season, and keep the decorations up for as long as I can.  I didn't get my Christmas goodies posted prior to the holiday simply because I was getting my house in order for both mine and my hubby's families for our Christmas celebration.

 

 

 

Here is one of our trees decked with none other than burlap, antlers and pheasant feathers.

 

  

 

And the second tree is fake so I was able to feed the "stem" through the old pedal firetruck and reattach the base below. 

 

 

 

 

 

And of course I used a bit of "pin"spiration to make a cocoa bar for our families.

Creative use of surfaces for chalkboards is my FAVE! 

It's super easy to switch them up for different seasons.

 

 

 

 

 

 

And since I was hosting, I decided to throw what I hope is a new holiday tradition to our families!

 

It's a family art project!!!

 

I printed on paper several items to draw that depicted some of our favorite family fun.  Then everyone had to pick one of the pieces of paper from a box and draw the item.

 

 

The artists ranged in age from 6-56 !!!  It was amazing fun!!

 

 

Teeny disclaimer:  I had prepared the paper by drawing the kitchen and large white tree with my projector, (no, I'm not THAT good!) in order to have some starting points for the other objects.

 

We had a super fabulous day with lots of laughs.  Family is everything!!

 

 

 

And what do you do with an ugly ceiling fan hanging from an ugly ceiling?  Inspiration from a friend...adorn it with hats and stockings!
