A little funky before....and funky after!

Earlier this summer, the JunkFest girls and I were on one of our crazy junking adventures when this sad, torn up chair presented itself. While the others were quick to turn up their noses at its potential, I saw a future for this funky has-been....think college dorm room or apartment...

While not a perfect match, this ottoman was among the neglected items waiting for a new home, so I figured what the heck! Gotta have someplace for those feet, right?

Found myself some fresh, fun, floral-hip fabric that would fit the bill for this dazzling duo.

You do see the flower pattern, right?

What do you think? Conducive to a little late-night study session?

Gotta go get the ottoman done...before that first exam....and JunkFest! Hope to see you there!

Before & After

Today I'm linking up with Miss Mustard Seed's Furniture Friday over here , and Funky Junk Donna's SNS #43 here. When I came across these chairs I wasn't so sure I wanted anything to do with them. I'm not a huge fan of caning. That was...until I saw it painted and distressed.

Before: Ick

After: Now that's what I'm talkin' about!
And here's my inspiration below. Miss Mustard Seed is one of my (many) favorite blogs.
This made me a believer in caned chairs. The slipcovered seat sealed the deal!

Copy Me Challenge

Even though I didn't embellish mine with a stripe to mimic an old feedsack, it's still flirty, fun, and functional. Would even be cute with a monogram on the seat!

Now I have a huge decision to make. Do I keep them (yes, yes, yes!) even though there are only four, and I would prefer 6? Or, do I let some lucky person take them home from JunkFest?

I guess I've got a month (to be exact!) to decide.....what would you do?

I Had an Itch to Etch

I'm seeing SPOTS....now that is. Well POLKA DOTS to be exact. And I love the way they sparkle.

But before the thoughts of dots, these spectacular wine glasses had to glimmer their way through the test of time. Most of them anyway. For example, with the large size, you might think the set of 12 is missing 2. Nope. In fact, the set of "8" comes with TWO spares!! See what I mean???

And the silver rims...so pretty. Worn on a few of the glasses, but that's the charm of vintage elegance.

I wanted to perk up the personality of these glasses and what better way than to etch an itch, uhm, scratch an etch...I mean itch an etch...I mean etch the GLASS! (*whew*)

My sweetest Junk Sister cut me a few sheets of dots on her CriCut (love it!) and I also found a few different size punches. After painstakingly arranging randomly placing the vinyl dots, I applied glass etching cream, wait, rinse, and wow. Fab!

As much as I'd love to sip a bit of wine out of each and every one...these sweeties will be found at JunkFest 2010. See you there!

Utility cart makeover!

This recently found utility cart needed a little makeover. I loved the size (coffee table height), the greyish-blue color and the wheel factor, but I thought the top could use some excitement.

After digging around the garage, I found an old map I picked up last year. It was ideal for this mini-makeover, as the color of the map looked to be a good match to the cart.

Out came the trusty Mod Podge...
After measuring, cutting and adhering the map (I always use my hairdryer and fingers to push out those bubbles - works great every time), a couple coats of poly were added to the top for protection. This is probably as close to Central Europe as I'll ever get! Look, there's Italy! Here she is finished! (Have you noticed all my finished products are named in the female sense of the word?) :)

Hope you enjoyed this quick, easy makeover. She (ha!) will be available for purchase at JunkFest 2010. Make sure you check out our info for more details on this year's sale as well as our EVENING EXPO! We're excited to have you join us!
