Screen Door, I'll Take Mine Black

There are a few things I truly get enjoyment and comfort from.  One is a darn good cup of coffee.

Another...having something with heartfelt meaning...something that sparks a happy memory, that makes you think of times past and loved ones.

Now, you'll have to excuse the fact this is a bit of a repost.  But I love this screen/closet door as much or more now than I did when I introduced it to you.  A very sweet lady, living on the farm my Mother worked at when I was very young, kindly gave me this door instead of tossing it to the trash.

You can read the original post HERE.

Are you back yet?

Take a look at the before photos of this door.  Ouch.  It certainly had seen it's better day and I knew this was not a job for the faint at heart.

So......I put on my big girl undies gloves and got to work.  Lots of elbow grease went into this project, but oh so worth it!

Long story short.  My garbage closet went from this...

To this!

If you're intersted in the whole story, and the tutorial on these panels...

Now I couldn't leave the other pantry door out of the post.  It doesn't have the history the other door does, but has evolving character with a large chalkboard panel.  I used some "web"spiration for the design, after having a bout of chalkboard drawer's block.  Notice though...I got lazy and distracted by the time I got to the bottom lines!  haha

Junk projects. 1 down...99 to go!

Yes those are just numbers. I could have just as easily said 1,000 to go because around my house there are so many projects I will probably NEVER get them all done! I thought perhaps that if I made a point to share with you and do somewhat of a countdown...maybe that would get me moving. You know...OFF THE COUCH. Of course I will draw the line at a few things...like the American Idol tryouts (*pants on the ground!*) and a few other select shows. Anywho, I'll try to keep those projects coming, and when I slack I'll share a "past" project or two, or three. Hey, my rules!
I've shown you these sexy lady wire dressforms before. I sold a few at JunkFest 2009 and filled a request for another after, for a display chalkboard for a jewelry designer and metalsmith. (check out Tamra's link on the sidebar!) Since then, I've completed two more, one as a gift for my son's sweet girlfriend, and one for ME!

I got the wire forms at an auction, cheap cheap!! (see the black screen door in that pic below? that baby is one of the next projects I'll post!)
Added 3/8" finished plywood, painted with chalkboard paint.

Of course it took the longest to get MINE done, but here she is...in my GirlCave! Here's a TIP for getting a nice result when writing on a chalkboard...quickly run the tip of your chalk through running water. Don't saturate it, just a tinkle will do. As you start to write it will look like no chalk is going on your board at all...give it a few seconds and as it dries...you'll love how it looks!!

Wine, candles, and thingamabobs...

Who said you can't hang a chandelier over a basket of potatoes? I thinks I can! And I did!

I have this cutsie metal cart in my kitchen that serves as my "wine central". Complete with a minnow bucket that chills the wine nicely when filled with snow, (no lack of snow here right now) a wood tray turned chalkboard, a rusty pulley (there for no reason other than I love rusty stuff), a wood toolbox turned wine glass caddy, and some thingamabobs.

You know, THINGAMABOBS. Those cute little vintage receipt holders that you could poke your eye out with. Two of the thingamabobs are holding wine charms, and the third is holding a copy of a cherished photo. I've added wine corks to the tops of course, so I don't poke my eye out!

Under the metal cart is a rusty metal basket that works perfect for potatoes and onions.

On a recent trip to a Grand Forks antique store I found the neatest candle chandelier...and I don't care if it's replica or genuine....cause it's CUTE! Hung it with an old metal bracket, added some votives (what I had on hand), and viola! There's just nothing like "junking" up a house!!
