Literary Pumpkins

UndertheTableandDreaming

Howdy everybody! Stephanie Lynn over at Under The Table and Dreaming is having a Halloween Pumpkin Parade Party! Who doesn't love a party? I thought I'd play along and show you what I did with some small faux pumpkins earlier this fall. I actually wanted to sell these at JunkFest, but given the amount of time they took to complete, I would have had to charge more than plenty for them.....so I KEPT them!

I've seen projects like this with sheet music, but since I didn't have any at the time, I used old book pages. I started by spraying the pumpkins with white spray primer. After they dried, I applied strips of book pages (cut with a pinking shears) using Mod Podge. This was almost disastrous! Would have been easier if I had three more hands!

After working in stages, completing half a pumpkin at a time, I painted the stems black.

Here I have a few of them displayed with tarnished silver, pewter, and black. Very monochromatic....with just a tiny pop of orange.

LOVE this one with the leaves & curly stem....wish I had more of those! The stems on the others were too fake looking, which is why I chose to paint them.

Head on over to Stephanie Lynn's and check out all the other cool ideas on parade...then show us your pumpkins!

Pumpkin-licious!

Yep, fall is in the air! I have looked everywhere in town for faux white pumpkins to decorate with and could find none. I really want to get my house spiffed up before my parents, sisters and aunt and uncle (from Spokane!) arrive for JUNK FEST. I decided I'll just paint some of the orange ones I already have...This is the end result - all satin ivory covered. Oh, the chair will be FOR SALE at JUNK FEST. It started out yucky brown with an even uglier vinyl seat in a green color I've never seen before! Burlap, batting and stenciled-on numbers make for a new cushion! Here are more painted pumpkins in a darker shade of ivory...I know, I know...black pumpkins? I love 'em! (Sorry for the bad reflection in this picture). I added some scrapbooking letters to one of the pumpkins to give it a little zip (they are raised letters that look like keys from an old typewriter). Wouldn't REAL old typewriter keys glued on be fun too? One more thing - the neat old suitcase in this picture will be FOR SALE at Junk Fest also! So don't throw out those old pumpkins; simply give 'em a face-lift! And, see you soon at JUNK FEST where we junk girls will have lots of fun, fresh fall decor and neat accessories for displaying it in and on!
